Eight Essential Fall Festivals Hitting Philadelphia In One Huge Weekend, October 3 & 4

With the official arrival of autumn — the first day of the season is September 23 — celebrations throughout the Philadelphia region take on a decidedly seasonal vibe with Oktoberfests, fall harvest fests and more filling the calendar.

On October 3 and 4, particularly, Philadelphia and the surrounding area will overflow with more than eight major fall festivals in a single weekend, including some of the biggest fests of the year — the Midtown Village Fall Festival and Bloktoberfest in Graduate Hospital.

Midtown Village Fall Festival

The Midtown Village Fall Festival is always one of the most talked about and populated festivals of the fall festival season. Explore the restaurants and shops along 13th Street and enjoy the massive block party, which features music, food, sidewalk sales, beer gardens and much more.

Bloktoberfest

From Broad to 18th streets on South Street, the Graduate Hospital neighborhood celebrates its food, dining and shopping scenes — and the city’s food, dining and shopping scenes — with plenty of local beer, live music from area bands, food trucks and more.

Revolutionary Germantown Festival

History goes on full display during the Revolutionary Germantown Festival, a day-long festival that celebrates the rich history of the historic neighborhood. The celebration features costumed characters, live music, food and drink culminating with a reenactment of the Battle of Germantown, the only military battle ever fought within the borders of Philadelphia.

Opera on the Mall

This fall, Opera Philadelphia will once again host Opera on the Mall, a free HD broadcast of the opera La traviata on the iconic grounds of Independence Mall. Many guests of the event bring pets, picnics and friends to make the most of the evening. Note that free registration is required and the number of available tickets is limited. Chestnut Hill transforms into an outdoor arts and crafts marketplace during the Chestnut Hill Fall for the Arts Festival on October 4. More than 150 talented artists from throughout the country display and sell their creations in media ranging from watercolor paintings to jewelry. Live entertainment, children’s rides and alfresco dining round out the excitement during this free event.
